Lake Maggiore

Formerly named "Verbano", is a place fool of colours and perfumes.
The vegetation is really luxuriant thanks to the particularly mild climate, here grows an exceptional variety of plats, ranging from those typical of the more temperate areas such as oleanders, palms, mimosas, azaleas, rhododendrons etc., to the more "northern" as mountain pines, fir-trees, beech-trees, birch-trees etc.

As well as the favourite climate, also the hospitality of the habitants makes of the Lake Maggiore the ideal place where to stay for a holiday. Its accommodation structure is varied and complete and is ideal both for long holidays and week-ends. The tourist can choose between a wide range of accommodation, from camping on the lake shore, to the grand hotels with swimming-pool, sauna and private beach.
Famous places as Stresa, Arona, Baveno, Verbania, Locarno and Ascona well known all over the world, can offer worldliness, amusement and joy, but also great tranquillity, solitude and contemplation.
Not far from the lake shores you can find verdant hills and mountains where you can keep in contact with wildlife, such as the National Park of Val Grande.

A holiday on the lake is not only relax or amusement. There is the opportunity to dedicate to a wide range of sport's activities: from water skiing, rowing, fishing, windsurfing to tennis, golf, riding; inland: you can go trekking, rock-climbing or, in winter, downhill or cross-country racing skiing.

The Lake is a really historical and cultural area, which offers the opportunity to visit the museums of local objects and traditions or the great palaces of Borromeo's Islands and the botanical gardens of Villa Taranto.

A lot of famous personalities of the past, both who born and who came here, left the sign of their passing, still to be seen along the streets on the houses built on the shores of the lake or on the surrounding hills in different periods and with several architectural and cultural styles.

From early Christian to Art Nouveau, through Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical, is a really fascinating trip through two thousand years of civilization. Is perhaps this extraordinary and harmonious encounter that confer to Lake Maggiore its unmistakable style.

Thanks to its position, the Lake Maggiore is easily reachable: the great Sempione route is a good connection with international ways and railways; from the highway "autostrada dei Laghi", is easy to reach the airports of Malpensa (1h) and Linate (1h. 30 min.); the boat's service of "Navigazione del Lago Maggiore", allow you to reach the most famous tourist places, as the Borromeo's Island, so that other ports on the lake. There's also a good connection between Intra and Laveno, thank to the ferryboat's service.
